Table of Contents

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs kielbasa, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups apple jelly
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sauce

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the apple jelly, barbecue sauce, Dijon mustard, ground cinnamon, and ground ginger. Whisk until well blended and smooth.

Step 2: Add Ingredients to the Slow Cooker

  1. Place the sliced kielbasa in the bottom of a slow cooker.
  2. Pour the prepared apple sauce mixture over the kielbasa, making sure all pieces are evenly coated.

Step 3: Cook the Kielbasa Bites

  1. Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours or on high heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking and coating.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Once the kielbasa bites are heated through and the sauce has thickened slightly, switch the slow cooker to the “warm” setting.
  2. Serve the Apple Kielbasa Bites directly from the slow cooker or transfer them to a serving dish. Enjoy with toothpicks for easy serving!

Cooking Tips & Notes

  • Sauce Consistency: If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow some of the liquid to evaporate.
  • Apple Jelly: Apple jelly adds a lovely sweetness to the dish, but you can also substitute it with apricot or pineapple jelly for a different flavor.
  • Stirring: Stir the kielbasa bites occasionally to ensure even coating and prevent any pieces from sticking to the slow cooker.

Variations

  • Spicy Apple Kielbasa Bites: Add 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce for a hint of heat.
  • Honey Mustard Kielbasa: Substitute the apple jelly with honey and increase the Dijon mustard for a tangy honey mustard flavor.
  • Beer-Infused Version: Add 1/2 cup of your favorite beer to the sauce mixture for an extra layer of depth and flavor.
  • Vegetarian Option: Use vegetarian sausage or plant-based kielbasa to make a meat-free version of this appetizer.
