Imagine biting into a warm, cheesy slice of bread, flavored with the iconic ingredients of a classic Philly cheesesteak. The combination of savory grilled steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and oozing provolone cheese make this dish a comfort food lover's dream.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 large loaf of French or Italian bread
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
8 ounces provolone cheese, shredded
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the French or Italian loaf in half lengthwise without cutting all the way through, so it opens like a book.
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, garlic powder, and parsley until well combined. Spread this garlic butter mixture generously over the cut sides of the bread.
Place the buttered bread on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until the edges begin to crisp up slightly.
While the bread is baking, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil and sauté the sliced onions and bell pepper for about 5 minutes, until they start to soften. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak to the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Cook until the steak is browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the bread from the oven. Spoon the cooked steak mixture evenly on top of each half of the bread. Generously sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese over the filling.
Return the assembled cheesy bread to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is golden brown.
Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then slice into pieces and serve warm.
