Stromboli is a delightful Italian-American dish that has gained popularity for its versatility and flavor. This dish is essentially a savory st■ bread that can be filled with a variety of ingredients, making it a perfect option for quick lunches, party appetizers, or family-friendly dinners.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
¾ cup warm water (about 110°F)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup sliced pepperoni (or any meat of your choice)
½ cup sautéed bell peppers and onions (optional)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ cup ricotta cheese (optional for creaminess)
1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
Parmesan cheese for sprinkling (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix them well until evenly distributed.
Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a rough dough begins to form.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
Shape the kneaded dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
While the dough rises, prepare your fillings. If using vegetables, sauté them in a bit of olive oil until tender.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12x18 inches.
Spread ricotta cheese (if using) evenly over the dough, followed by the mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sautéed vegetables, and sprinkle Italian seasoning over the top.
