Wonton Meatballs are a delightful fusion of traditional Chinese dumpling flavors and classic Italian meatball recipes, creating a dish that is both comforting and innovative. These Asian-inspired meatballs combine the savory goodness of ground pork with aromatic spices, all wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground pork
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
30-40 wonton wrappers
Oil for pan-frying (optional)
Water for steaming (if using a steamer)
1/4 cup soy sauce (for dipping sauce)
1 tablespoon rice vinegar (for dipping sauce)
1 teaspoon honey or sugar (for dipping sauce)
1 teaspoon chili oil (optional, for dipping sauce)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
Take about a tablespoon of the meat mixture and place it in the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water, then fold it over to create a triangle. Press the edges to seal the meatball securely.
Choose your preferred cooking method. For steaming, arrange the wonton meatballs in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper and steam for about 10-12 minutes until cooked through. For pan-frying, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, add the meatballs, and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and chili oil (if using) until well combined.
Once cooked, serve the wonton meatballs hot, accompanied by the dipping sauce.
