A classic comfort food dish that blends tender ground beef, creamy potatoes, and savory seasonings, making it a favorite among families.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 cup crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs
2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for the casserole.
Cook the meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Season the meat: Stir in salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and remove from heat.
Prepare the potato mixture: In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, sour cream, cheddar cheese, milk, thyme, and paprika. Mix until the potatoes are evenly coated.
Layer the casserole: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the potato mixture on the bottom. Next, add the cooked beef mixture evenly over the potatoes. Top with the remaining potato mixture.
Add the topping: In a small bowl, combine the crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the casserole.
Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender and the topping is golden brown. Check for doneness by inserting a fork; it should slide easily through the potatoes.
