A nostalgic dish that evokes warmth, often associated with comfort food in American cuisine. It features a creamy sauce rich with flavor and tender bits of chipped beef served over crispy toast.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 (2.5 oz) package of dried chipped beef
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of bread (white, whole grain, or your choice)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Rinse the dried chipped beef under cold water to remove excess salt. Pat it dry with paper towels and chop it into bite-sized pieces.
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir occasionally to ensure even melting.
Sprinkle in the flour, whisking continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and bubbling.
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
Stir in the garlic powder and onion powder. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
Add the chopped chipped beef to the sauce, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
Toast the bread slices until golden brown.
Spoon the creamed chipped beef generously over the toasted bread and garnish with fresh parsley.
