These savory snacks combine the irresistible flavors of creamy cheese and savory sausage, all wrapped in buttery crescent dough. Perfect for game day gatherings, family reunions, or even a quick lunch, these roll-ups are a comfort food favorite that can be whipped up in no time.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground sausage (preferably a flavorful variety such as Italian or breakfast sausage)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice; a blend of cheeses can enhance flavor)
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened (for a creamier texture, let it come to room temperature)
1 teaspoon garlic powder (fresh minced garlic can also be used for a more robust flavor)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder (for depth of flavor; consider using finely chopped onions for added texture)
2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (ensure they are fresh for optimal flakiness)
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash, which helps achieve a golden finish)
Optional: Fresh herbs or additional cheese for topping (such as parsley or Parmesan, which can elevate the dish)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup, which also prevents sticking.
In a large skillet, brown the ground sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spatula until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease, ensuring a leaner filling for the roll-ups.
Once the sausage is cooked, reduce the heat to low and stir in the cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and shredded cheese. Mix until the cheese is melted and the mixture is well combined, approximately 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly to prevent tearing the dough.
Open the cans of crescent roll dough and unroll them on a clean surface. Separate the dough into triangles as indicated on the packaging, making sure to keep the triangles intact for easy rolling.
For each roll-up, place a heaping tablespoon of the sausage mixture at the wider end of the triangle. Roll the dough tightly around the filling, starting from the wide end and rolling towards the point. Pinch the ends firmly to seal and ensure no filling escapes during baking.
Place the roll-ups on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish, which will add a nice sheen.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and p■ up, creating that irresistible flaky texture.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, as they are best fresh out of the oven!
