  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped apples and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
