Taco Pizza is a delightful fusion of two beloved cuisines: classic Italian pizza and the vibrant flavors of Mexican tacos. This dish offers a unique twist that brings together savory ground beef, zesty taco seasonings, and a medley of fresh toppings on a crispy pizza crust.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
¾ cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef (or plant-based substitute)
1 packet taco seasoning
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
1 cup salsa
1 cup chopped lettuce
½ cup diced tomatoes
½ cup sliced black olives (optional)
¼ cup chopped green onions (optional)
1 avocado, diced (optional)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat and add taco seasoning per package instructions.
Stir in a splash of water if needed. Cook until heated through, about 5 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a cast iron skillet, place it in the oven to heat.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit your skillet or pizza pan. Transfer it to the heated skillet or pan.
Spread a layer of salsa over the dough, leaving a small border around the edge.
Evenly distribute the seasoned ground beef over the salsa, followed by a generous sprinkle of shredded cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Top with chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, green onions, and diced avocado as desired.
Slice and serve your Taco Pizza hot, garnished with additional salsa or sour cream if you like!
