A hearty meal that brings the warmth of home-cooked comfort to your table. This dish transforms a humble cut of meat into a tender, flavorful masterpiece, perfect for family dinners or meal prep for the week.
Ingredients
Scale:
3-4 pounds pork butt, boneless or bone-in
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 cup chicken broth or apple cider
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (your choice of flavor)
Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Coleslaw for serving (optional)
Additional barbecue sauce for serving (optional)
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper to create a spice blend.
Rub the spice mixture generously all over the pork butt, ensuring it is well coated. Let it sit for at least an hour at room temperature or refrigerate it overnight.
Place the seasoned pork in the slow cooker. Pour the chicken broth or apple cider around the meat and drizzle the barbecue sauce on top.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours, until the meat is fork-tender.
Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks, discarding large chunks of fat.
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the accumulated juices. Let it sit for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve the pulled pork on buns, over rice, or alongside your favorite side dishes.
