Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (optional)
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight depression in the center of each patty.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
Transfer the cooked patties to a plate and cover them with aluminum foil to keep warm.
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced onions and cook over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until caramelized.
If using, add the sliced mushrooms and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for another 2-3 minutes until thickened.
Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Let them simmer for about 2 minutes.
