Hamburger patties are the quintessential comfort food that brings friends and family together, whether it's a backyard barbecue or a casual weeknight dinner. This recipe captures the essence of what makes a homemade burger truly special: juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
4 hamburger buns
4 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
Lettuce leaves
Tomato slices
Pickles
Onion slices (red or white)
Your favorite savory burger sauce (ketchup, mustard, or mayo)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center with your thumb.
If you're grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F). For skillet cooking, heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side until a nice crust forms. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. Add cheese slices in the last minute of cooking to melt.
Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate and let them rest for a few minutes.
Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in the skillet for a minute. Layer the bottom bun with lettuce, a patty, tomato, pickles, onion, and your choice of sauce. Top with the other half of the bun.
