This irresistible sweet and salty concoction combines a buttery toffee layer with crunchy nuts and velvety chocolate. Perfect for holiday gatherings or as a thoughtful homemade gift.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (or a mix of both)
1 cup crushed saltine crackers or graham crackers
1/4 teaspoon sea salt (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare your slow cooker by lining the bottom with parchment paper, making it easier to lift out the finished product later.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the brown sugar and granulated sugar, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to bubble. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Once bubbling, let it cook without stirring for an additional 2-3 minutes until it reaches a light caramel color. Remove from heat.
Carefully pour the butter and sugar mixture over the bottom of the lined slow cooker, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Next, sprinkle the crushed crackers over the caramel layer, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
Then, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top of the crackers for added texture and flavor.
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until completely smooth. Pour the melted chocolate over the nut and cracker layer in the slow cooker, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Cover the slow cooker with its lid and set it to low. Cook for 2 hours, checking occasionally to ensure everything melts together without burning.
After 2 hours, turn off the slow cooker and let the mixture cool for about 30 minutes with the lid on. This will help it set slightly.
Once cooled, carefully lift the parchment paper out of the slow cooker. Transfer the mixture to a cutting board and let it cool completely before cutting it into squares.
