There's nothing quite like the aroma of tender barbecue ribs wafting through your home, especially when they’re made in a slow cooker. Crockpot Barbecue Ribs are not just a meal; they’re an experience, reminiscent of summer cookouts and family gatherings. Slow-cooked to perfection, these ribs are infused with a rich, homemade barbecue sauce that enhances their natural flavors.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 to 3 pounds pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs)
1 tablespoon barbecue rib seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions
Start by removing the membrane from the back of the ribs. This step is crucial for achieving tender barbecue ribs. Use a paper towel for a better grip on the membrane, then gently pull it off.
Generously rub the barbecue rib seasoning all over the ribs. Add salt and pepper to taste.
In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Whisk until all ingredients are well blended.
Place the seasoned ribs into the crockpot, standing them upright if needed. Pour half of the barbecue sauce over the ribs.
Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours, or on high heat for 3 to 4 hours.
For a caramelized finish, preheat your oven broiler. Transfer the ribs to a baking sheet, brush with the remaining barbecue sauce, and broil for 3 to 5 minutes.
Allow the ribs to rest for a few minutes before cutting. Serve them with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
