This family-friendly casserole is a delightful mix of ground beef, pasta, and a creamy tomato sauce, all topped with layers of gooey cheese that melt beautifully in the oven.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef
8 ounces spaghetti
1 can (15 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup cottage cheese or ricotta cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, typically around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 6-8 minutes.
Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the skillet with the ground beef. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti, beef and sauce mixture, cottage cheese (or ricotta cheese), and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix until well combined.
Pour the spaghetti mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese and the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or basil if desired, then serve warm.
