A family-friendly dinner idea that combines seasoned ground beef, creamy potatoes, and melted cheese for a hearty and comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a large casserole dish and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbled, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
Layer the sliced potatoes evenly in the prepared casserole dish. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
For the cheese sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add cayenne pepper if desired for a slight kick.
Spread the cooked beef mixture over the potato layer, ensuring even distribution.
Pour the cheese sauce over the beef and potatoes, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top for an extra cheesy casserole dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown and bubbling.
Remove from oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley and serving.
