Cheese fritters are the epitome of comfort food—a delightful combination of crispy texture and gooey, melted cheese that can brighten any occasion. These savory cheese fritters can be enjoyed as a snack, appetizer, or even a party dish.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk (or a dairy-free alternative)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh herbs (parsley, basil, or chives)
1/2 cup finely chopped vegetables (like spinach or bell peppers)
Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Whisk the dry ingredients until well blended.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Gently fold in the shredded cheese, along with any optional herbs or vegetables you wish to add. The batter should be thick and cohesive.
In a deep frying pan or pot, pour in enough vegetable oil to submerge the fritters (about 2-3 inches deep). Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, being sure not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry each fritter for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Enjoy the cheese fritters warm, with your favorite dipping sauce.
