Description
A beloved staple in Southern households, this comforting dish melds the hearty flavors of sausage, creamy gravy, and fluffy biscuits into a perfect breakfast bake.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound breakfast sausage
6 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 cup shredded cheese
1 can refrigerated biscuits (8-count)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the sausage until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease, then set aside.
Open the can of refrigerated biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
Fold in the cooked sausage and half of the shredded cheese into the egg mixture.
In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, place the quartered biscuits evenly across the bottom. Pour the egg and sausage mixture over the biscuits, ensuring they are evenly coated. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
In the same skillet used for the sausage, melt 1/4 cup of drippings over medium heat. Stir in the flour, cooking for about 1 minute until slightly browned. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring until the gravy thickens.
