Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound of breakfast sausage, crumbled
1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
2 cups of whole milk
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 cup of butter, cubed and chilled
3/4 cup of milk
1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook the crumbled sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage and set aside.
Add the flour to the sausage drippings and stir for about 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then return the sausage to the gravy.
In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk to form a dough.
Spread half of the biscuit dough in the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour the sausage gravy over the dough. Top with the remaining biscuit dough and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
