- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk (or buttermilk for extra tang)
- 1 large egg
- 4-6 hot dogs (beef, pork, or turkey)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
- Vegetable oil for frying (optional)
- Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks (optional)
Instructions
- If using wooden skewers, insert them into the hot dogs.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Whisk together the milk and egg in a separate bowl, then gradually pour into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Gently fold in the shredded cheese into the batter.
- In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each hot dog into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated.
- Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the corn dogs from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Allow them to cool for a minute or two before serving.
